The local council has recently received an increasing number of reports that dog owners are letting their dogs bathe in the water treading pools in the Schindel.

However, dogs are not allowed in the water treading pool for hygiene reasons.

Despite prohibition signs, violations occur time and again. Some owners also let their dogs run free when they pass the pool. Depending on the breed, this can happen quickly if the animal smells water and wants to cool off.

According to the police regulations on the maintenance of public safety and order on the streets and in the facilities in the municipality, dogs must be kept on a lead in public areas. Anyone carrying dogs must ensure that they do not harm, endanger, harass or unreasonably frighten people or animals.

Any fouling caused by dogs must be removed immediately by the dog handler.

Administrative offenses can be punished with a fine in accordance with the police regulations.

Implementation of the flowering meadows

In coordination with the Reichenbach local administration, several flowering meadows were created in the municipal area in order to visually enhance existing green and fallow areas and at the same time do something to protect the local insect world.

Flowering meadows with a total area of approx. 720 square meters were created in Adlerstraße (160 square meters), Josef-Faber-Straße (190 square meters), Burgstraße (120 square meters) and behind the Reichenbach elementary school (250 square meters). To do this, the turf was first removed in autumn 2021 and a large amount of sand was applied to loosen and decompose the soil. The areas were then milled and prepared for seeding. This took place in spring 2022.

The Nova-Flore seed used is a perennial flower mixture that grows to a height of around 60 centimetres and contains a high proportion of perennial plants. It contains a total of 34 plants, including horned violets, perennials, marigolds, daisies, soapwort and oregano. The flowering period is from May to October. After the plants have flowered and set seed in the fall, they are cut back once.

What can we all do for bees and insects?

It's not just the city that can do something - we can all make a small but important contribution. For example, unused paths, lawns and gravel areas can be converted into (flowering) meadows.

In addition to an attractive appearance, this creates habitats and food for butterflies, bees and a variety of other insects and small animals. With butterfly- and bee-friendly floral decorations, even a small balcony box can help insects feel at home. In addition to marigolds, cornflowers, poppies and sunflowers, herb beds with rosemary, sage and dill are also popular.

Less maintenance is more: the flower meadows do not need to be mowed frequently like lawns to maintain an attractive appearance, but adapt their composition to the respective location. Once they are established, it is sufficient to cut them back once a year.
